Pilot Success Scores Highview 5 More Blocks

Having successfully completed 800sqm of Re-roofing to 2 blocks in Tower Hamlets, Highview have now been asked by Mulalley to get to work on a further 5 blocks, as part of their Tower Hamlets contract.

Using the Langley waterproofing system, the high-quality finish of the pilot works earned Highview the waterproofing, along with installation of permanent freestanding handrails, to 3,000sqm on the additional properties over the coming months.

Pleased to be awarded the new blocks, Pre-Construction Director Dan Costen looks forward to starting works;

“We have enjoyed delivering this contract so far and we’re very pleased to be continuing to strengthen our relationship with Mulalley.

This additional award is just testament to the exceptionally high standard of works that our teams are delivering on site and I congratulate our staff on their good work.”

Roofing Projects – Ask the Expert

Roofing Projects – Ask the Expert

When managing a project as complex as a roof replacement or new roof installation, many of your building’s vital components are at stake, so it’s of paramount importance to get it right!

Highview’s Head of Operations, Tom Titler, has 33 years’ management experience within the roofing industry, with his wisdom and expertise having earned him a position sitting on the RBM Technical Committee for the National Federation of Roofing Contractors.

We asked our in-house expert Tom, what his experience has shown to be the top 5 things to consider when approaching any roofing project.

Read the Warranty

“Often I see specifications of roofing products which the client believes to have an extended guarantee period (sometimes 40 years or more), when in reality all may not be what it seems…

When looking at a warranty, always read the small print. If broken down, a warranty period can actually be made up into 5 year + 5 year phases, usually relying on regular servicing and inspections to validate the cover.

Always make sure you are clear on what you are specifying.”

Installer & Manufacturer Collaboration

“If an installer commences a project that uncovers challenges resulting in an unsuitable specification, they may recommend that an alternative product be used instead. Allowing the installer to liaise directly with your chosen manufacturer will speed up the rectification process, promoting a ‘knowledge sharing’ collaborative approach with the best outcome for your project.”

Check Existing Insulation

“Checking there is no existing insulation in your roof void prior to specifying the works is key and most good roofing manufacturers will do this.

If existing insulation is missed, the risk of Interstitial condensation becomes high,  as moisture becomes trapped between the roof void and new system, resulting in possible failure of the underlying structure and high repair costs.

Removal of insulation prior to installation is always the best long-term approach to the project.”

Consider Cavities

“If your roof is abutting a cavity wall, has the manufacturer accounted for a Cavity Tray?

It sounds simple, but if missed and a tray is not installed, the install can be compromised.”

Time your Programme

“With weather as seasonal as we have it in the UK, any project is best planned well in advance, taking into account any potential extreme conditions.

Too wet, too icy, or too hot, and you could encounter costly delays. Ensure that all key project members consider this when planning your timeline.”
